Hi Team,

What if some random people run a feature like Nutanix Object without having a proper license for it, what they just have is only for AOS license.

1. will they successfully use it in the cluster?

2.will that Object feature be affected when the active AOS license expires?

3.Nutanix license is perpetual right? so when it expires all features are still working except support from TAC but what about the features that runs illegally, will they be affected once active license that doesnt supports the feature they enabled expires?

Hi,

We’ll be shortly moving to Horizon Instant Clones running on our ESXi v7 U3c Nutanix cluster. I’ve been reading about the Parent VMs which Instant Clones put on each host and I’m a little concerned about how LCM will work in the future for performing tasks where it takes hosts in and out of maintenance mode in turn.

There’s an old thread here that suggests doing only one host at a time and manually getting it to remove the parent VMs but I was wondering if that was still necessary.

I did ask Support and they said “I have reviewed some information and as far I understand this shouldn’t be an issue on newer Horizon releases” but they sounded not entirely certain and gave a caveat about whatever VMware might say...

VMware documentation refers to newer Horizon versions being generally OK but that host updating via VUM is an issue and even suggests disabling Parent VMs entirely if that is used. Is LCM similarly affected? What are other Instant Clone Nutanix admins doing nowadays?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Hi All

Havoc struck this morning when I tried to move my AHV cluster from old switch stack to new switch stack - the hosts, I think went into panic mode and started to restart various VMs.

The background to this is: I have 2 x Dell X4012 core switches and 2 x Dell N3024 ToR switches, currently due to moving VMware environment to Nutanix only 1 x X4012 is connected to NIC 1 on each of the 3 hosts. From the X4012 there is a cross connect into the old VMware network Core blade switches (Dell 8024 x 2) which are connected to the old ToR N3048 switch stack, these are then connected to the router for VPLS and DMZ.

So to move the connectivity, I thought I could add the second NICs of the hosts to the second X4012 and disconect the crossconnect and the first NICs thus using the newer switches, albeit on the opposite NICs. I planned to reconfigure and update the first X4012 and add back into the stack with a LAG to the N3024 stack and no crossconnect. I moved the NIC connections and lost all pings so I rolled back - probably exacerbating the problem as I still could not ping - it was then I realised I had a restart storm.

Could anyone tell me a way of doing the changes without creating a storm? I have added a diagram, the parts in black are current , the parts in red are where I need to be.

We currently have an 1 Block, 3-node cluster (NX-1065-G5) with approximately 50 VMs on it. It is approaching end of life, and we are replacing it with another 1 Block, 3-node unit (NX-1065N-G8). At end-state all of the VMs will be on the new hardware, and the old hardware will be powered down.

Using LCM to update Foundation to version 5.4 I am finding that it consistently fails on Lenovo hardware.

I’ve tried two clusters so far that were both at AOS version 6.5.2 but both LCM updates of Foundation to version 5.4 failed.

It worked when using the command line, so my question is: what’s going wrong when LCM attempts this?

      Hi All,

We currently have an 1 Block, 3-node cluster (NX-1065-G5) with approximately 50 VMs on it. It is approaching end of life, and we are replacing it with another 1 Block, 3-node unit (NX-1065N-G8). At end-state all of the VMs will be on the new hardware, and the old hardware will be powered down.
